Even if you have a perfect at-home oral hygiene routine that works for you, it is still beneficial to have a professional cleaning twice each year. Using advanced equipment, a professional cleaning eliminates tartar and plaque that has built up over time and polishes your enamel for a healthier, brighter smile. After your cleaning, you can ask for tips on better home oral care and discover certain areas that may require more attention. A professional cleaning will give board-certified dentist Dr. Matthew Wolfe a chance to look for any issues in your mouth that may need additional treatment. Having a professional cleaning is a vital step in keeping up your dental health so make appointments for you and your family at Signature Dentistry of Rochester.

"Our family has been under Dr. Wolfe's care now for 4 years and we couldn't be happier with the professionalism and caring service we have received from he and his hygienist. We have undergone several procedures, in addition to routine cleanings and checkups, and the care during and after has always been great. No matter what type of visit we have had the knowledgeable staff has always been prompt in handling insurance claims, providing nothing but a pleasant experience."- R.U. / Google / Nov 30, 2015

"Dr. Wolfe is so kind, caring, patient, and gentle. I have severe pain issues in my mouth and am pretty reluctant to trust someone to be gentle enough, but I felt instantly comfortable in Dr. Wolfe's chair. He has a really easy-going and nice bedside manner, listens well, and is very careful not to cause unnecessary discomfort. He talks you through everything he's doing and makes sure you're doing ok throughout. I feel like I've known him a long time even though I just saw him for the first time, and I think it's because he is already so invested in my care and he remembers details I told him and specific aspects of my exam even though I'm sure he has many patients! It's really refreshing to find someone who genuinely cares about your well-being, spends a lot of time with you, calls you to check-up on you, and actually wants to be involved in your care. His exam is so thorough that he discovered potential clues to solving my pain that many others have missed. He truly cares for the whole person, too, which I really appreciate. He noticed areas I'm struggling with because of the pain, and asked me about them in a caring, concerned manner rather than being judgemental. He works with you based on what is best in your individual scenario. I have seen A LOT of doctors for my problem and Dr. Wolfe has been one of my favorites for sure! You can tell he genuinely cares and wants to help and hates seeing his patients struggle. He's very intelligent but not the least bit arrogant. He is willing to answer as many questions as you have and does not rush you. So glad I found his office as a supplement to my other care! It's really nice to have someone to trust and fall back on when you're struggling, and I appreciate Dr. Wolfe for being one of those people to me! If you're having pain in your mouth and are hesitant to go to the dentist because of it, see Dr. Wolfe! I was really reluctant to go and I put it off, but I'm really glad I went to see him. He gave me some reassurance and also some direction, which was much needed. Thank you, Dr. Wolfe!Update: He is amazing at numbing shots (I was more numb than I've ever been, he's so good at nerve blocks in the back that he should be an oral surgeon), and was the only dentist to take my discomfort seriously and get me numbed up for a cleaning so that I didn't have to sit there and suffer! So willing to work with other doctors. He's the best and such a blessing to me. One of the only ones to genuinely care and try to find a cause/diagnosis for my awful pain rather than push me off to pain management, and I appreciate that more than ever. Also, Heather is one of the sweetest and most genuine hygienists I've ever met, and I could tell that she has a true understanding, compassion, and empathy for pain and understood the extent this is affecting me emotionally. In the midst of an extremely tough week, meeting her was seriously a blessing. I love this office! They greet you by name and feel like family. Everyone is so caring. They truly cared about me from the moment I called."- C. / Google / Apr 21, 2019
The ADA (American Dental Association) recommends patients have a professional cleaning two times each year. Infants should have a visit to the dentist before they turn one, and following that, Dr. Wolfe and his team can help you decide when your child is old enough for their next appointment. Having a professional dental cleaning will help you to avoid cavities because built-up plaque, the main reason for tooth decay, is removed. A professional cleaning will also help to remove stains and tartar from your teeth. If you would like to freshen your breath, brighten your smile, improve your oral health, and avoid spending money on more expensive treatments later down the line, make an appointment for a professional cleaning for your whole family at our Rochester Hills, MI location.
What To Expect
Your dental cleaning will start by addressing the tartar and plaque deposits on your enamel, which is hard to remove at home with just daily brushing and flossing. Advanced tools are used to scale buildup without affecting the enamel. To start, a device with ultrasonic technology loosens large areas of plaque and tartar with a lubricating mist and high-speed vibrations. Next, a fine, handheld instrument, such as a scaler or curette, will remove the remaining pieces. Every tooth will be scaled to remove all of the buildup. After your teeth are cleaned, your enamel will be carefully polished to strengthen it and remove stains. If requested or required, a professional fluoride treatment may be done following your cleaning.
Dr. Wolfe may recommend cleanings more often if you have other oral health concerns, such as periodontal disease. Throughout your treatment, Dr. Wolfe or an assistant on his team will help you come up with a home routine for good oral health by recommending dental products and demonstrating techniques that will focus on your needs. Learning and performing these techniques are advantageous for your teeth, wallet, and overall health so be sure to attend your bi-annual dental appointments at Signature Dentistry of Rochester.
A professional cleaning is a preventive treatment so it's typically covered by insurance. A member of our office can speak to your dental insurance to understand your coverage before we bill for any remaining amount. If you don't have insurance, you can talk to Dr. Wolfe about payments we take and medical financing.
